When I moved into Tu, we had orientation. The first time I met my group, they were all sweet and wanted to get to know each other. We planned ice cream dates, and many other activities outside of the group meetings. My peer mentor is amazing, he has been texting me before I even moved in. Carlos has been so welcoming and has made me feel like I have so many genuine friends at school in such a short period of time. He is always willing to help me out no matter how big the project is. He has been there for all the students in his group and has reached out continuously to make sure none of us need any help with anything. If there was a problem that he didn’t know how to help us with, he made sure he found a way to give us an answer and to help us the best way he could. He was my first friend at TU in my opinion. Being a peer mentor in the future will be something I do because it has shown me how much of a impact 1 person can have on new students. I feel like I can reach out to him for anything and that he wont judge or put me down, he will lift me up and give his full time and attention to me even when dealing with his own issues and classes. TU having a peer mentor program has improved my experience in many ways, I grew to love my school because of all the resources and friendships I now have.
