I am currently a freshman at The University of Tulsa. Before I moved onto campus, I was extremely nervous that I would not be able to me friends easily. In high school, I was a band kid, so it was easy to make friends. When you spend thirty hours a week with people you already have something in common with you bond easily. The university created a new program where you are assigned a peer mentor and an orientation group. Before we move in my orientation group had a group me and we were able to ask questions and get to know each other before we moved on campus. When we had our first meeting it felt like we had all been good friends and it was easy to get to know everyone. Everyone on campus was extremely friendly so it was easy to meet new people. One of the orientation activities was the glow tour. On the glow tour, you are given a scavenger hunt and you go to each building and answer the trivia questions to gain tickets. In the end, whoever has the greatest number of tickets wins the game. It was about 9:00 pm and every freshman on campus is running around like chickens with their heads cut off because they don’t know where anything is. This game really helped me learn where all the buildings are and how to get to my classes. Orientation made the transition to college much smoother, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it.
