School Pride

Hurricane football team. I had been struggling to find ways to become involved in my college’s campus life due to the ongoing pandemic and any restrictions it had caused. Receiving the call to work with the football team was one of the most exciting days of college so far. When I arrived for my first day, I was met with the smiling faces of my coworkers and bosses. I was lucky to have such a welcoming and helpful team to teach me the ropes. Their stories of the raging fans of D1 football and long bus rides built such anticipation for the upcoming season. As someone who had yet to have the chance to attend a college football game, the practices alone were exhilarating, just getting to be there on the turf during drills.

school prideOn my first game day, I felt an energy unlike any other when all the staff and players were so focused and driven to compete as hard as they could. Their energy was personified by the roar of the crowd and released with each clash of the helmet. I was also excited to learn that with this position, I am allowed to travel to away games with the team. I had assumed home games were as good as they get, but with some stadiums holding upwards of 75,000 people, my job only got better.

Though my involvement with TU football is a job with a scholarship attached, the experience I have gained is invaluable and the work has been so fun, the word job is almost incorrect.
