Social Inclusion at TU

Being a commuter student can make socializing and creating strong bonds with college students difficult.  I’ve personally heard people say, “he commutes so he is a bit quiet” and “we don’t see him much, he just goes home”. Of course, this makes sense since you are much more likely to run into other students if you live on campus. I feel this is a huge deal because a major part of being in college is meeting new people and maybe creating some lifelong connections. Not being able to do that as effectively as a commuter student can feel like a big negative. However, there is an upside to this situation if attending TU. There are events of all sizes almost every day on TU campus. Could be attending an interesting guest lecture, a massive football game, or even just a club meeting. Clubs are especially great since there are so many available at TU and you can find some like-minded individuals as well. Either way, it’s always certain that you can find something interesting to do on any given day, which will surely lead to meeting some interesting people. Being a junior now, I spent almost three full semesters taking online courses. Coming back this semester to in-person classes after so long, made me realize just how important interactions with others are. Not just in terms of discussion and information retention in class, but also just an overall boost mentally. So though commuting has its downsides, TU does a great job in mitigating and creating endless opportunities for social gatherings and inclusion.
