My second TU experience was the freshman orientation. The theme this year was StartTU and it lasted for about one week. This event was an amazing experience for me and I’m sure many other freshmen. As a freshman the first thing you want to feel is welcomed and that’s exactly how I felt during the week. Throughout the week we would start off with group meetings with our peer mentors , where they would tell us the idea of what the day would be focused on. After the meetings we would start doing events that were put together by mentors and other staff members. The events were all wonderful and filled with knowledge and entertainment. The hard work and dedication that was put into making all freshmen feel safe and seen was greatly appreciated. Orientation isn’t just about learning about campus or meeting staff member, but meeting your classmates that will be there with you throughout your four years. It is the opportunity to get outside of your shell and make connections with those around you. You get the chance to make new friendships that could last a lifetime. At one of our last events we got the chance to play a few matching games and one of them was to find your birthday twin. I enjoyed this exercise because all of the birthday twins I’ve had in the past were never in the same area as me, but now I have one that is on the same campus as me.
