
Junior and senior recitals
Scott Clayton (BA ’21), tenor, performed a non-degree recital on April 28 at Meinig Recital Hall, as a virtual event. He recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in musical theatre. The recital, which he conceived as a retrospective, includes classical, musical theatre and “crossover” works, including works by Donaudy, Weill, Lauper and Simon.
Val Hinkle (BA ’21), violinist, presented a senior lecture recital at First Baptist Church in downtown Tulsa on May 2. The program featured music of J.S. Bach, Henryk Wieniawski and Grazyna Bacewicz. She was accompanied by Applied Assistant Professor of Piano Stuart Deaver.
Lydia Jeong (BA ’21) presented a senior lecture recital on April 10 in Gussman Auditorium. She recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in Art, Culture & Entertainment Management and bachelor of arts in music. Performing on both the piano and the violin, she presented music of Jean-Marie Leclair, Johannes Brahms, and Grazyna Bacewicz. Performing with her were Val Hinkle, violin, and Cole Cribbs, piano.
Lauren Lloyd (BM ’21), soprano, performed her senior recital on April 28 at Meinig Recital Hall, as a virtual event. She recently graduated with a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance. The recital included music of Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, von Weber, Hahn, Hageman, Carpenter, Blitzstein, Moore and Obradors.
Alexis Milford-Rosales (BA ’21), mezzo-soprano, performed her senior project recital on March 19 in the Stevenson Hall of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tulsa. Milford-Rosales, a student of Judith Raiford, recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in music. The theme of her recital was “Discovering the Spanish Speaking World though Song” and included works by Manuel de Falla, Granados, Bizet, and several mariachi songs performed with a festive ensemble of TU instrumentalists.
Alex Poe (BA ’21), horn, performed his senior project recital on May 7 at St. James Presbyterian Church in Jenks, OK. Poe, a student of Richard Wagner and Joseph Falvey, recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in music. The program featured music of Richard Strauss, Mozart and David Amram. He was accompanied by Adjunct Professor of Piano Dana Maher.
Caleb Ricketts (BM ’21), tenor, performed his senior recital on April 14 at Saied’s Music in south Tulsa. He recently graduated with a bachelor of music in vocal performance. The recital included music of Donaudy, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Barber and more.
Marjorie Sheaff (BM ’21), mezzo-soprano, presented her senior project on April 15 in Meinig Recital Hall. The title of her presentation was “Comparative Analysis between American Opera and its Counterparts.” Sheaff, a vocal student of Judith Raiford, recently graduated with a bachelor of music in vocal performance and a bachelor of science in biochemistry.
Alexandra Vest (BA ’21), mezzo-soprano, performed her senior project recital on April 9 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Broken Arrow. She recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in music. The recital, which focused on the evolution of operatic “pants roles”, included music of Mozart, Gluck, Gounod, Thomas, and Johann Strauss II. The “heavens” were apparently moved, since the recital had to pause twice for tornado warnings!
Jessi Rhinehart, soprano, performed her junior recital on March 5 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Broken Arrow. Rhinehart, who is a student of Judith Raiford, recently completed her junior year in the bachelor of music in vocal performance program. The recital included music of Handel, Schubert, Debussy, Argento and Kirke Mechem.
Abigail Williams, soprano, performed her junior recital on Feb. 19 at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in downtown Tulsa. Williams, who is a student of Judith Raiford, recently completed her junior year in the bachelor of music in vocal performance program. The recital included music of Mozart, R. Strauss, Wolf, Puccini, Victor Herbert and others.
Accomplishments
Sarah Carr (BME ’21) has been offered a teaching position at Bixby West Intermediate School. She will teach 4th-6th grade general music.
Iris Ramirez, a junior in the bachelor of music education, vocal major, program, was elected president of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) officer board at the OkMEA’s annual conference in January. Ramirez is the first president elected from TU.
Bryson Miller, a sophomore in the bachelor of music education, vocal major, program, was elected president-elect for the OkMEA officer board at the OkMEA’s annual conference in January.
