Student Story: Joseph MacDonald

Photograph of Joseph MacDonaldJoseph MacDonald was born in Benin City, Nigeria. When he was nine years old, his family relocated to Tulsa, seeking new opportunities. “From McClure Elementary to Edison Preparatory, and now The University of Tulsa – it’s been an amazing ascent, both in terms of education and my personal journey.”

In ninth grade, Joseph discovered a passion for cheerleading. With dedication and talent, he secured a spot on the TU cheer squad and won a scholarship. This financial assistant didn’t just ease the burden of tuition; it also ignited a fire within him. “When your education is sponsored, you can seize every opportunity,” Joseph reflects.

Now, as a senior, Joseph serves as a peer mentor for incoming students and enjoys helping them navigate the TU experience and discover their passion. Joseph will graduate in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and dreams of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
