The 2021 University of Tulsa Olympics was held Labor Day weekend. The Olympics consisted of many different events around campus including a Co-Ed grass volleyball tournament outside of Collins Fitness Center. I competed with three friends for the first ever Olympic volleyball tournament. Many students gathered to compete and cheer on fellow students. The tournament was set on a bright and sunny day, the perfect weather for a tournament.
When the tournament began, students from all over campus came and watched, cheering on their friends. The competition was a great time, and everyone involved seemed to enjoy themselves. In our first game of the tournament in single elimination we won, which would send us into the semifinal. After having a little break, we started the semifinal match and ended up beating a group of our friends in three games, it was enjoyable playing against people you know. As the anticipation built for the final, we found out that we were playing against yet another team of friends in the finals. Before the game, we shared a handful of friendly trash talk before the game started.
As the game approached, more and more students came in support of my team as well as our opponents. In the final game the crowd roared every time a point was achieved, it was an incredible environment to be a part of. We ended up losing in the finals in three games, but it was an overall amazing experience to be a part of.
Later in the day, SA held a medaling ceremony for those who had competed in the event. The event had a great turn out and many of the participates of the events were able to receive a medal from the president of SA!
