My freshman and sophomore year, I was a part of the sound of the golden hurricane. My freshman year started in 2019, so I was lucky enough to have a “normal” experience before Covid happened. Back then, I was submerged in band and it consumed quite a bit of my time. Being a part of the organization with other freshmen enabled me to create relationships and friendships that continue to this day. From every hour of practice to getting to experience every home football game from a different point of view, it forced me into social interactions with people who had similar interests as me.
However, since being a part of this organization took most of my time between practicing with the group and putting my own time in outside of the practices, it helped me improve my time management. As a freshman, college was a whole new experience to me and I quickly realized it was way different than high school. In high school, I would always find myself being able to wait until the last minute to do what I needed to and still find myself successful. In college, being a part of this organization helped me learn what needed to be prioritized so I could enjoy the activities at hand to the fullest extent. With being in band, I learned how to maximize my time and get to know the people I was spending so much time with and they eventually grew to be some of my best friends.
