The squiggly career path

Most careers are being impacted by rapid advances in technology, resulting in job automation or elimination.  But, at the same time, new jobs we can’t even yet image, are being created.

How can you prepare for this dynamic future? For students, the journey begins with course selection. Before enrolling in courses for your next semester,  watch the TED Talk by Sarah Ellis and Helen Tupper entitled, The best career path isn’t always a straight line.

Ellis and Tupper challenge us all to rethink the idea of “climbing the ladder of success” and instead, envision a “squiggly” career path that embraces a more dynamic, open-ended path allowing for surprises and adventures into unexpected areas of growth and fulfillment. You may find new passions that will help you to become more innovative in the way you solve problems and prepare for your future career. You never know when you will need to use your education, talents and skills in new ways. Reinvention can be a valuable tool. Breadth of knowledge can be as valuable as depth of knowledge in a changing world.
