UTulsa professors receive 2024 SPE Award

The University of Tulsa (UTulsa) faculty, Cem Sarica, Ph.D. was award the 2024 Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty and Mohan Kelkar, Ph.D., the 2024 Honorary Member Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). These recognitions highlight their exceptional contributions to the field of petroleum engineering and their unwavering commitment to educating and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

“I am honored to receive this award. I thank The University of Tulsa, my colleagues, and my past and present students for this honor,” said Kelkar, chair of Petroleum Engineering. His influential research and teaching have lastingly impacted the academic community and the petroleum industry.

Sarica, the Floyd M. Stevenson Distinguished Professor of Petroleum Engineering, is renowned for his pioneering research and dedication to student success and expressed deep gratitude upon receiving the award. “I feel humbled, honored, and grateful. This award is dedicated to my students,” he said. His innovative work and mentorship have inspired countless students, fostering a legacy of excellence in petroleum engineering.

The recognition of Kelkar and Sarica underscores UTulsa’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in advancing the field of petroleum engineering. “The accomplishments of Sarica and Kelkar reflect the high standards of our faculty and the innovative spirit that drives our college. Their dedication to their students and field is truly inspiring,” Andreas Polycarpou, Ph.D., dean of UTulsa’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Kelkar and Sarica will be formally presented with their awards by SPE President Terry Palisch at the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition scheduled to take place September 23 – 25 2024, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
