The University of Tulsa has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for fostering high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. UTulsa received a Silver Campus rating (30%-39% voter participation), reflecting a commitment to ensuring nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life.
“This recognition of our students’ participation in the midterm elections is quite an honor. As new voters, college students are eager to have their voices heard and learn how to be engaged citizens. We are proud of their efforts and will continue our work to support a campus culture that educates students on their civic rights and responsibilities,” said Melissa Abdo, UTulsa’s director of civic engagement.
Earlier this year, the university also received ALL IN recognition for having a Highly Established Action Plan, as well as being a signatory of the Presidential Commitment, pledging campus support for full student voter participation.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national nonpartisan initiative of Civic Nation. In collaboration with over 1,050 higher education institutions, ALL IN’s goal is to substantially increase the number of college students who are democratically engaged on an ongoing basis, during and between elections, and to make democratic engagement an accepted part of the campus culture and curriculum so that students graduate with the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and values needed to be informed and active citizens.
