Veterans Day Reception

The University of Tulsa College of Law hosted its annual Veterans Day Reception on Nov. 8 to honor the valor and sacrifices made by alumni and the distinguished men and women who selflessly served in the United States Armed Forces. The event was a testament to the college’s commitment to inspiring a sense of pride and gratitude in the hearts of all Tulsans for the contributions made by veterans in securing the basic rights and freedoms we enjoy today.

The poignant and inspiring program’s keynote speaker was Washington, D.C.-based alumna Carol Thompson (JD ’08), who is the deputy managing partner with Federal Practice Group. Thompson is a luminary in her field who fights every day to ensure protection for our veterans.

Her work as a distinguished veterans’ advocate is pivotal in ensuring that our veterans’ rights and interests are preserved. Thompson’s passion for serving the veteran community is inspiring, and her dedication to the cause has consistently been recognized in the legal and military communities. Her vast knowledge and experience made for a stirring, enlightening, and informative event, leaving a lasting impact on attendees.

“Ms. Thompson is a powerful advocate and a shining example of leadership through service,” said TU Law Dean Oren Griffin. “We are proud that she is an alumnus and honored to have her speak at our reception, as her work is emblematic of the values of our college. Her passion for serving the veteran community is inspiring, and we are delighted to welcome her to this year’s event.”

The ceremony opened with the presentation of colors, marking the commencement of the official proceedings. Throughout the night, attendees were provided the opportunity to network with veterans and learn more about their experiences.

The University of Tulsa College of Law takes great pride in its tradition of producing alumni who selflessly serve their communities and their country. Dean Griffin’s opening remarks summed it up succinctly: “At a time when much of the world is at war and citizens in other countries struggle to live according to their wishes, the sacrifices made by our veterans remind us of the true value of freedom.”
