Thanks to the generosity of the David B. Walters Trust, The University of Tulsa and The Tulsa Symphony have forged a unique partnership in hopes of strengthening the music program at TU as well as giving Tulsa Symphony musicians a chance to mentor college and high school students. Tulsa Symphony has formed a quintet of artists in residency at TU to work side-by-side with string students at the university through the fall and spring semesters. Students will have the opportunity to shadow the professional musicians and attend their rehearsals. In addition to working with the TU string players, the quintet has visited schools in Arkansas with a TU representative to perform and inform the students about the university’s music program. The quintet’s next stop is at Lorton Performance Center on Nov. 15. The university also will provide transportation for any TU student who wants to attend a Tulsa Symphony concert at the Performing Arts Center downtown.
Interested students may contact department assistant Katy Gallagher at katy-gallagher@utulsa.edu. The Tulsa Symphony offers 50% off student tickets with the code TSOSTUDENT.
