For the tenth consecutive year, on February 27, 2019, Oklahoma-based law firm McAfee & Taft hosted the “Off the Record” networking event in cooperation with The University of Tulsa College of Law and our Professional Development Office. Approximately 50 students mixed and mingled with guests from the bench, private practice, the public defender’s office, nonprofit organizations and business.
This collegial gathering gave students the opportunity to ask questions and receive honest answers about life and success in the legal profession. Or, as TU Law student Julie Torralba described it: “A bunch of women gathering together and trying to empower each other — that is a room I want to be in.”
Ask them anything
This was the third year that “Off the Record” was hosted at the home of TU Law alumna Rachel Blue (JD ’88), a McAfee & Taft shareholder and intellectual property lawyer. “What’s great about this particular event is you’ve got a panoply of women who have through all kinds of different scenarios,” Blue said. “You’ll be able to ask them anything and you’ll be able to find an answer about how to handle it. The wonderful thing is that you don’t have to worry about being judged when you ask those questions.”
TU Law is deeply grateful to Blue and McAfee & Taft for making this stimulating, enriching event possible for our students. In TU Law Dean Lyn Entzeroth’s words, Rachel Blue is “an incredibly gracious hostess, and she makes our students feel welcome and helps launch them in their career.”
