In addition to being awarded the prestigious 2020 University Teaching Award, in fall 2020, Stanley Rutland Professor of American History Andrew Wood designed and taught a course on disaster history with students researching various disaster events in the past. These included the Plague of Justinian, the Black Death, historic fires in London and the American West, the Spanish Flu, massive floods in China during the 1930s, the 2011 Fukushima Tsunami and Nuclear Meltdown, Hurricane Katrina, the Joplin Tornado and COVID-19.
Wood’s most recent book is an edited collection of essays on tourism history in Latin America and the Caribbean published by the University of Nebraska Press.
