About

Bill Buron, Ph.D., received his Diploma in Nursing from Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri in 1995. Two years later, he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with his B.S. in nursing with honors. Then, in 1999, he received his MSN from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Buron became certified and licensed as a family nurse practitioner that same year. Soon after, he took additional classes and became certified and licensed as a gerontological nurse practitioner (GNP). He graduated with a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2009. Buron has more than 25 years of nursing education experience, teaching diploma through graduate level students. More recently, Bill served as assistant dean for nursing at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Northwest Arkansas. Buron is an experienced medical-surgical nurse and has maintained a part-time clinical practice as a nurse practitioner in primary care and nursing home settings throughout most of his career.

Buron’s areas of research included dementia, personhood, nursing home care, and nursing education. He developed the Personhood Model for Dementia Care, an innovative tool designed to promote the provision of high-quality person-centered care in the nursing home setting. Buron is passionate about the importance of personhood and empathy in nursing care. Buron maintains a part-time gerontological nurse practitioner practice with Hospice Circle of Life
