About

David Tingey received his B.A. with Honors in International Relations and in German from Brigham Young University. He received the M.A. in German Literature from BYU. He received his Ph.D. in German Language and Literature from Washington University in St. Louis with a dissertation on Thomas Mann’s Joseph tetralogy. Dr. Tingey received a one-year research grant from the DAAD to research and study at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in München. He developed and now directs at The University of Tulsa the International Engineering/Science and Language dual degree program. He served for six years as director of TU’s School of Language and Literature, and serves currently as the president of the faculty senate. He teaches courses on Faust, the hero’s journey, Thomas Mann, Uwe Timm, post-war and post-wall Germany, the German Novelle, and the Grimms’ Märchen. He also teaches in the Honors College. He has authored a book on Thomas Mann’s “Joseph and His Brothers,” and has published articles on Gabriele Reuter and foreign language housing.
