Applied Assistant Professor of Psychology

About

Madison Myers-Burg, Ph.D., is a developmental psychologist who specializes in early childhood linguistic and social development.

Myers-Burg’s research explores young children’s social preferences for others on the basis of linguistic cues, such as spoken accent and dialect-specific vocabulary. She is particularly interested in the role linguistic factors can play in the formation of in-group and out-group biases among young children. Her doctoral dissertation examined the social attributes children assign to a speaker based on the speaker’s use of either familiar or unfamiliar dialect-specific vocabulary.

Myers-Burg is passionate about teaching and strives to provide an exciting learning environment for her students. She teaches several courses at the undergraduate level, including foundations of psychology, developmental psychology, lifespan development, biological basis of behavior and health psychology. She also teaches human development at the graduate level.
