About

Dr. Martin P. Paulus is a clinician researcher and the head of the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with an extended career focusing on mental health and brain science. Beginning his research at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, he specialized in psychiatry at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and UCSD. During his time at UCSD and the Veterans Affairs San Diego Health Care System, he focused on substance use and anxiety disorders. Since joining LIBR in May 2014, Dr. Paulus has been instrumental in the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging to understand mood and anxiety disorders, aiming to identify novel treatment targets or prognostic biomarkers. The current focus of Dr. Paulus and LIBR is to explore the underlying neural mechanisms of conditions like anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders across diverse populations.
