Assistant Research Professor of Community Medicine

About

Masaya Misaki, Ph.D., is an Assistant Research Professor and Associate Investigator at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR). He received his Ph.D. in Informatics from Kyoto University, Japan. His doctoral research focused on human visual recognition, combining experimental psychology with information theory and artificial neural network models. As a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Japan and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), NIH, he further developed his expertise in neuroimaging studies, including advanced fMRI analyses using a machine learning approach. At the Laureate Institute for Brain Research, he has focused on developing real-time fMRI applications for innovative psychiatric treatments, particularly for mood and anxiety disorders. His current research is devoted to the development of novel psychiatric treatments using real-time neuroimaging technologies, with a particular focus on neurofeedback training. His work focuses on understanding the mechanistic aspects of neurofeedback treatment processes and tailoring personalized treatments. He is committed to merging real-time neuroimaging technology with machine learning techniques to accurately identify patients’ mental states and disorders.
