About
Ponnivalavan Babu, Ph.D. is a research assistant professor in the Russell School of Chemical Engineering, recognized for his expertise in hydrate-based technologies that advance sustainable solutions for gas separation, carbon capture, energy storage and desalination. His research focuses on developing environmentally responsible and energy-efficient processes that support global efforts in decarbonization, clean energy and water sustainability.
Babu earned his Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering from the National University of Singapore, where his pioneering work on hydrate-based gas separation received the Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award from the International Conference on Gas Hydrates. He also holds a master’s degree in materials science and engineering from the National University of Singapore and a bachelor of technology in polymer technology from Anna University, India.
Before joining The University of Tulsa, Babu served as a senior research fellow and research engineer at the National University of Singapore and as principal research scientist at Newgen Gas. His highly cited publications and multiple most-cited paper awards in leading peer-reviewed journals highlight his impactful contributions to sustainable energy and water technologies.
