About

Dr. Salvador M. Guinjoan, M.D., Ph.D., is a research associate professor in the Oxley College of Health & Natural Sciences at The University of Tulsa and principal investigator at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research. A physician-scientist trained in psychiatry and neurophysiology, Dr. Guinjoan earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Buenos Aires, completing residency training at Sheppard Pratt/University of Maryland and clinical leadership roles in Argentina before joining LIBR in 2020.

His research focuses on the neural mechanisms of major depression and related disorders, with particular interest in repetitive negative thinking and the development of innovative neuromodulation techniques. Currently, his lab explores low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) as a novel, non-invasive approach to modulate deep brain circuits implicated in treatment-resistant depression. His work integrates neuroimaging, clinical psychiatry and experimental therapeutics to advance precision mental health care.

Dr. Guinjoan has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to international collaborations on schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease and serves on editorial and scientific committees worldwide. He is dedicated to mentoring trainees and fostering interdisciplinary research that bridges neuroscience and clinical practice.
