About
Sima Jonusaite, Ph.D., is a professor of biological sciences who specializes in the physiology of invertebrate animals and the homeostatic processes allowing this remarkably diverse group to inhabit ecological niches in times of rapid environmental change and across different life stages. Research questions in her lab are addressed utilizing highly integrative approaches from molecules to cells to whole animal fitness. Current work in her lab is focused on elucidating cellular and epithelial transport mechanisms relevant for the development, ionic and acid/base regulation, and gastrointestinal health in select species residing in freshwater, marine, and terrestrial environments (e.g. larval and adult mosquitoes and sea urchins). A top priority of the lab is to provide a stimulating and supportive environment for the students and mentees to grow and foster their independence toward future endeavors.
