Sports Leadership & Management

Ready to climb to next-level leadership positions in diverse sports industry settings? Our interdisciplinary program is specifically designed for those who want to leave their mark in the sports industry.

This interdisciplinary program is not only limited to athletes or those interested in coaching but is designed for graduates from different backgrounds wishing to obtain specialized training and succeed in a sports industry sector that most interest them. Under the guidance of our expert faculty, you will identify your elective courses and enjoy dynamic classes that combine hands-on experience in state-of-the-art intercollegiate, interscholastic, and professional team athletic facilities in the Tulsa community with invaluable academic studies.

Our master’s degree in sports leadership prepares you to apply leadership, administrative, and sports science principles to effectively manage athletic programs and teams, regulatory agencies, fitness/rehabilitation facilities and health clubs, sports recreation services, and other related services to leadership positions within the sports industry.

Museum Studies at The University of Tulsa offers two interdisciplinary programs: an undergraduate minor and a master’s in Museum Science and Management. Both programs benefit from the university’s partnership with Gilcrease Museum, providing students with paid and volunteer opportunities in various departments. The programs emphasize a balance of interdisciplinary coursework and hands-on experience, preparing students for careers in museums, cultural heritage centers, and non-profit organizations. The undergraduate minor can be paired with any major and includes lectures, seminars, field trips, internships, and case studies. The master’s program allows specialization in museum administration, collections care and research, or cultural heritage preservation, offering graduate assistantships for highly qualified students.

Women’s & Gender Studies

Film

Fostering visual literacy by providing analytical and critical prowess to understand and interpret film from various aspects, our program enables you to make cinema that conveys compelling stories. You will gather theoretical knowledge that underlies filmmaking and master essential creative and technical skills. From script to final edit, you will unearth the production process and the professional requirements of the film industry. Filmmaking allows student producers to expand their visual storytelling skills. While these skills are critical to the traditional creative fields, they also apply to law, business, health, and even medicine.

Furthering hands-on learning experiences, you will develop extensive portfolios while working in state-of-the-art studios and production labs. You will join a close-knit, collaborative environment led by our professional faculty, allowing you to focus on capstone projects during your senior year and learn first-hand what it takes to become the next generation of filmmakers.

The Department of Education, in collaboration with other academic departments across the UTulsa campus, offers several degree programs which lead to K-12 teacher certifications in the State of Oklahoma. UTulsa students pursuing teacher certification specialize in elementary education, instrumental or vocal music, English, French, German, Spanish, art, social studies, or mathematics. Those who aspire to teach at the middle or high school level double major in education and a degree field matched to their area of specialization. All education majors benefit from early and extensive field and clinical experiences in local public schools and the University School, a private PK-8 school on the UTulsa campus. All education majors spend their final semester student teaching in local schools under the supervision of mentor teachers and UTulsa faculty.

Creative Writing

The Department of English and Creative Writing has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research, combining academic rigor with a commitment to encouraging and guiding our students. Our faculty specializes in critical exploration of British, American, and Irish literature from the Middle Ages to the present, and you will gain rich training across wide-ranging forms and genres: fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and performance-based work.

There are frequent opportunities to learn the craft of writing through creative writing workshops taught by nationally and internationally known novelists or poets. Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. Our interdisciplinary African American Studies minor provides valuable insight into the numerous ways Africans and African Americans have shaped the history and culture of the Americas.

UTulsa’s African American Studies minor provides a breadth of courses from a wide variety of disciplines that help students explore the rich history and culture of African-descended peoples. Students can complement any major with classes like African film, African politics, the Civil War and Reconstruction, the economics of Black Wall Street, the sociology of inequality in American society, the history of jazz, and many more.

Via TU’s student-operated graphic design agency, Third Floor Design, and the TUTV Media Lab, you will have numerous opportunities to build your portfolio and bring your ideas to life.

Community & Public Health

Our integrative healthcare studies major, health sciences minor, and public health minor are designed to provide you with foundational knowledge and a broader understanding of universal concepts related to health and healthcare. We are proud to offer one of the best-equipped programs of its size in the U.S., where you will have access to a wide variety of high-end field equipment equal to the facilities of big state schools.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, master of science, and doctor of philosophy degrees in chemistry. Students also can pursue a combined bachelor’s and master’s program to complete both degrees in five years.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineers have designed some of the most important medical devices used today – from pulse-regulating pacemakers to easy-to-use blood glucose monitors. The interdisciplinary structure of this minor allows you to explore a range of diverse courses in biology, computer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and engineering physics. Speech-Language Pathology

Combine academic coursework and practical experience to optimize the fundamental human activities of communication and swallowing. 

Our programs prepare you for meaningful careers in communication sciences and disorders. Supported by expert faculty who prioritize individualized learning, you will gain comprehensive training in developing and rehabilitating speech, language, and swallowing skills.

You will follow a sequence of basic science and pre-professional courses during your undergraduate study and participate in a practicum onsite during your senior year. Our master’s program combines academic coursework with in-depth practical experience in UTulsa’s speech and hearing clinic with subsequent practica at various off-campus facilities. UTulsa programs are designed to provide a strong academic and clinical foundation that allows you to expertly evaluate, treat and conduct research into human communication and swallowing disorders.
