A program of advanced standing gives exceptionally qualified students a chance to earn credit by proficiency examinations. In order to be eligible to receive University of Tulsa credit through this program, students must be currently enrolled at the University.
Proficiency tests are administered by University faculty only after the application has been completed in the Office of the Registrar and the required fee paid in the Office of the Bursar. The cost of proficiency examinations is specified in the Tuition and Fees section of this Bulletin.
Proficiency tests must be administered prior to the beginning of classes each term.
Proficiency exam credits fall under the 36 credit hour limit for any credit by examination towards a baccalaureate degree. If student has additional credits from Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate scores, proficiency exam credits will be evaluated in combination with these to stay within the 36 credit hour limit.
Steps to Request Proficiency Exam Credit:
- Student makes arrangements with instructor who will administer the test and clarifies how much credit is being evaluated.
- Take Proficiency Examination Enrollment Form to Bursar’s Office In McClure Hall to pay for the test ($10 per credit hour being evaluated)
- Take proof of payment to instructor to finalize scheduling of the test.
- Instructor signs the form following availability of the exam results and sends back to Office of the Registrar in McClure Hall. Form must come directly from instructor to the Registrar. Students are not to deliver final results for processing or they may be considered invalid.
