Staff meeting and administrative hires (Employee email)

Dear colleagues,

Four months into my leadership role here at The University of Tulsa, I can say this has been an exciting and eye-opening adventure. I have learned a great deal about our university and appreciate meeting so many faculty members through the conversations I have had in the colleges this past month. An all-staff forum is planned for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in the Lorton Performance Center, when I look forward to answering questions and hearing from those of you working in our administrative support units. A meeting invitation will be sent to staff members later this week; it will include the option of remote access for those unable to attend in person.

I am also pleased to announce two new additions to our team. These are critical positions and are being filled by uniquely qualified individuals.

  • Eric E. Schick is joining TU, effective today, as our new chief financial officer (CFO). He has more than 25 years of progressive strategic financial management, most recently as executive vice president and CFO at Saint Francis Health System. In that role, Eric was responsible for the business office and budgeting, materials management, supply chain, engineering, facilities, construction management, housekeeping, food service, and groundskeeping. An Oklahoma State University alumnus and CPA, Eric will be a valuable addition to our team. Mike Thesenvitz, who has done an exceptional job as interim CFO the past few months, will return to his role as controller. I thank Mike for his willingness to take on additional responsibility and assist me with financial strategies until we could identify a permanent replacement.
  • Clayton Staton has been named director of campus safety and security and will begin his duties on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Clayton comes to TU from New Jersey, where he serves as an instructor for the state’s Certified Security Officer Registration Act. Before that, he was employed at the State University of New York Maritime College. In 1996, Clayton founded The Cadet Corps nonprofit youth organization; in 2016, he retired from the New Jersey State Police. Clayton holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University and has extensive experience in Title IX, Equal Employment Opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance.

Please join me in welcoming Eric and Clayton to our campus. Both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to TU.

Thank you for all you do to support our students and each other. I am proud to be part of the TU family.
