The University of Tulsa has received the 2017 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a recipient of the annual HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — TU will be featured, along with 79 other recipients, in the November 2017 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity.
“The University of Tulsa is deeply honored and humbled by this prestigious national recognition. We are proud of the strides TU has made in the area of diversity and inclusion thus far and look forward to continuing this important work in the years to come,” said Jacqueline Caldwell, vice president for diversity and engagement.
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected TU because of its commitment to educating people of diverse backgrounds, nationalities and cultures as well as providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the campus community. Implementation of the university’s diversity initiatives has been guided by the Diversity Action Plan, which was developed by the Diversity Advisory Council, comprised of faculty, students, staff and administration.
“The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for both — continued leadership support for diversity, and other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said magazine Publisher Lenore Pearlstein. “We take a holistic approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across their campus.”
INSIGHT Into Diversity is the oldest and largest diversity publication in higher education today. In addition to its online job board, the magazine presents timely, thought-provoking news and features on matters of diversity and inclusion across higher education and beyond.
