Refugee Scholarship

Each year a new scholarship award will be granted to support one student for up to eight semesters (four years) of undergraduate study or until they have earned their first bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books, housing, and food. Transportation to The University of Tulsa, visa fees, and personal living expenses will not be provided by The University of Tulsa.

Eligibility requirements

  • Any student who is displaced due to large scale conflict in their country of origin, regardless of legal status is eligible to apply. This includes but is not limited to:
    • refugees of conflict living outside of the U.S.
    • displaced individuals who have settled with refugee status in countries outside of their place of origin
    • asylum seekers or green card holders with legal status in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated academic success with a minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Proficiency in English Language with formal test score, or at the discretion of the admission counselor
  • Completed application for admission
  • Completed supplemental scholarship application form
  • One of the following items:
    • Zoom interview with admission counselor
    • Letter of recommendation
    • Personal statement

Scholarship Application

Students may apply for the Refugee Scholarship after being admitted to TU. Information regarding the scholarship will be sent along with the scholarship application to students who are eligible to receive it.

Selection

Selection will be determined by the international scholarship committee. A fall start date is preferred. Applicants who show outstanding academic and personal achievements will be prioritized. All application materials must be received by March 1 to ensure the student’s ability to obtain a visa and arrange for travel.

Recipient must remain in good academic standing throughout their time at TU and follow the student code of conduct.
