TU’s Goldie passes over the rainbow bridge

The University of Tulsa family is sad to announce the loss of canine ambassador Goldie, who died Friday after a brief bout with cancer. She was 8 years old.

Goldie arrived at TU as a puppy in 2013 and immediately captured the hearts of our students, faculty, staff and alumni. During her seven years on campus, Goldie greeted prospective students and their families during visits. She wandered McFarlin Library during finals week to offer a furry respite to would-be test-takers. She attended athletic events to support Golden Hurricane fans and was even trained to retrieve the football tee after kickoff.

Through the years, she gained recognition as an award-winning dock-diver at competitions around the country. She was quite the canine athlete and loved being in the water as much as on land.

During the past year and a half, Goldie generally stayed at home with her caretakers to avoid drawing crowds on campus during the pandemic. However, she was always up for a trip to the lake or a walk in her midtown Tulsa neighborhood.

TU thanks everyone who helped care for Goldie and support the canine ambassador program. She touched hundreds of lives and always brought a smile to our faces. While the university is evaluating whether to continue the program and what it might look like in the future, our hearts go out to Goldie’s family as well as all those who loved her and drew inspiration from her feisty spirit.
