During Summer 2021, all tutoring is currently available online. In-person tutoring will not be available. The Math Lab is operating virtually via Harvey (see below for more information). Tutoring for other summer courses will be available through Bookings.
To schedule an online tutoring appointment, please fill out our tutoring request form. You will have the opportunity to select the course, date, time, and – optionally – a preferred tutor there.
Tutoring is free and available for all TU students.
Tutoring Services Policies and Procedures
Tutoring services at The University of Tulsa are designed to provide students with a space to cultivate knowledge of their course material and provide guidance through this learning process. It is our mission to enhance student success and provide academic support to every student seeking tutoring.
Students are able to book a tutoring session for a wide array of courses. Each individual session is one hour in length and may accommodate up to five students. Tutoring sessions must be scheduled at least 24 hours (and up to 30 days) in advance. A complete listing of available course services can be found on the booking page. Students seeking tutoring in a particular course that is not listed on the page may contact firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about locating a tutor.
The official hours for general tutoring services are Mon-Fri 8am to 9pm, Sat 10am to 9pm, and Sun 12pm to 9pm. Hours for individual tutors will vary depending on availability. During Summer 2021, most math course tutoring (e.g., in Applied Calc, Calculus I & II) is available exclusively through the Virtual Math Lab. See below for further information on this service.
The following conditions apply to the individually booked tutoring sessions:
- A maximum of 6 tutoring sessions per week may be scheduled at no cost.
- If additional tutoring sessions are needed for a given week, the student must prepare a written appeal explaining the reasons for the request and the courses where additional support is required. Appeals must be submitted to email@example.com for review. The office of Student Success Initiatives (SSI) will notify the student of the number of additional sessions they may book for the specific week concerned. If requests for additional assistance become excessive, SSI will forward the appeals to the respective department chair for which the tutoring is required along with the relevant collegiate Associate Dean. Final approval from both individuals will be required prior to the student being allowed to book the additional session(s).
- Students who do not adhere to the appeal procedure will incur a $5 charge for each unapproved tutoring session scheduled beyond the six allowed weekly.
- Cancellations or rescheduling requests must be submitted at least four hours before a scheduled session is to take place. For last-minute cancellations or no-shows, a warning for the first violation will be issued; afterwards, a fee of $25 will be posted to the student’s account.
TU provides unlimited access to math and chemistry tutoring through the Virtual Math Lab and Chem Assist services. These online tutoring centers are staffed by trained and experienced tutors who are available to help students during established hours of operation. Students can drop in without an appointment, obtain one-on-one assistance with a specific topic or problem, then continue with their day. See below for current service hours. (Note: Chem Assist will not be operating in Summer 2021, but scheduled chemistry tutoring can be set up through Bookings.)
If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please complete the Tutor Application Form, and a representative from Student Success Initiatives will contact you. Please note that tutor applications are processed at the beginning of each month.
