The Calvin C. McKee Veterans Center is located in the Norman Village Apartments on TU’s campus. The center hosts meetings and serves as a place for student veterans to relax amid their busy schedules.
The center is named after Calvin C. McKee, longtime mentor and brother-in-law to alumnus Thomas Russell. As a young man, Russell took McKee’s advice and began studying chemical engineering at TU. Russell completed his bachelor’s degree and later founded two successful companies in the gas processing industry. Russell has been recognized as a TU Distinguished Alumnus and is a member of TU’s College of Engineering and Natural Sciences Hall of Fame.
Russell established an endowment in honor of McKee. The contribution by Russell and his wife, Pam, creates three permanent TU staff positions — one each in veteran recruitment, student veteran affairs and veteran career placement. Read more about Russell and McKee here.
The Home Depot Foundation along with Student Veterans of America (SVA) awarded The University of Tulsa $8,948 to renovate the veterans’ lounge on campus as part of the Vet Center Initiative. TU is one of 50 colleges to receive this valuable grant.
The renovations included repairs to the wall and floor, new furniture and updates to the game room, computer lounge, dining area and lobby.
