Technology Requirements for Students

What You Need

Hardware

You will need a computer/laptop/device. We recommend your device have a camera, microphone, speakers or headphones, and an Internet connection. You will need to have the rights to install software such as LockDown Browser (LDB). Where LDB is required, it can only be installed on a Windows (not S mode), Mac or iPad device.

NOTE: Some of our campus systems do not work with Chromebook, Linux or Android.

Tip: In the event you need to learn or study remotely, a laptop is the smartest choice. Also to note, some disciplines will require students to have a laptop.

Educational Discount

If you are looking to purchase a new computer, students and full-time faculty and staff of the University of Tulsa are eligible to take advantage of discounted pricing for personal purchases currently offered by Apple and Dell.

Connectivity

On-campus Wi-Fi will be sufficient to support your everyday, on-premise learning.

For those off-campus times, be sure to check your internet connection to confirm it is adequate for learning. Test your internet connection speed, the optimal environment for Harvey/Blackboard is a broadband (high-speed) internet connection with a speed of 4 Mbps or higher.

On Going Technical Requirements

Be sure you meet the following base technical requirements for learning on and off campus

  • Computer with reliable, high-speed internet connection
  • Up-to-date Internet browser supported by Blackboard/Collaborate
  • Webcam for office hours, meetings, and still/video images
  • Headphones or earbuds (computer mics usually work)
  • Microsoft Office to open files. TU students have no- fee access to Microsoft Office 365

The following are the MINIMUM hardware requirements needed for educational use. A computer can have specifications above the details below, for example, an Intel Core i7 processor can be purchased but an Intel Core i3 is discouraged.
