The University of Tulsa’s Kendall College of Arts & Sciences has welcomed alumna Taylor Chukwu (B.A. ’18) as the newest member of its Board of Visitors. She will play a key role in supporting the college by contributing her expertise in the entertainment and writing industries.

After graduating from UTulsa with degrees in English & creative writing and communications, Chukwu’s career has flourished. She has worked in various production and writing roles in the film and television industry, advancing from intern to staff writer and screenwriter on projects including season two of the Disney+ series “The Mysterious Benedict Society.

Beyond her professional work, she is dedicated to mentoring and educating the next generation through after-school programs and tutoring. Her passion for communication and community-building has brought her back to campus multiple times to share her expertise with undergraduate students. Most recently, she visited the college’s AS 2001 course to discuss her time as a student and her career path and offer advice on entering the film and television industry.

Chukwu largely credits Kendall College as instrumental in shaping how she thinks, writes, and creates within an evolving media market. “I use what I learned to write stories that reflect the complexities of identity and society, champion underrepresented and marginalized narratives, and write with a voice that is intentional and impactful,” she said. Her belief in the power of storytelling led her to join the Board of Visitors, where she hopes to empower students to embark on their own creative journeys.

“Joining the Kendall College Board of Visitors offers me the opportunity to help build a future where students from all backgrounds see themselves reflected and valued as they shape their destinies and share their stories.”

As the youngest member of the Board of Visitors, Chukwu is eager to connect with fellow board members and current students. “I’m excited to lend a perspective from the entertainment and writing industries — spaces where arts and sciences students may want to break in but, like me, don’t always have a clear roadmap,” she said. “Being able to demystify those paths and build bridges is something I’m truly passionate about.”

Chukwu hopes that her firsthand experience as a recent graduate, combined with industry insights and lived experience as a young Black woman navigating creative and competitive spaces, will attune her to the needs and concerns of students at the start of their careers.

“I want to offer actionable guidance to administrators and mentorship to students and amplify student voices,” she said. “I’m committed to advocating for bold, inclusive strategies that reflect the evolving world students are entering while supporting the financial goals of the college.”

The Board of Visitors meets with Kendall College leadership to assist with the advancement of the college twice annually and on an individual basis throughout the year. Members commit their time, energy, connections, and ideas to increasing the college’s productivity and visibility in the community, participating in program evaluation, public relations, fundraising, student recruitment, and career placement.

For Chukwu, serving on the board is also an opportunity to express gratitude for the institution that shaped her. “This opportunity allows me to support current students and champion equity, visibility, and bold, original thinking,” she said.
