Museum Science & Management Grad Programs

The museum science and management program at The University of Tulsa prepares students for rewarding careers promoting education and cultural enrichment.

Offering interdisciplinary coursework and hands-on experience, UTulsa’s museum science and management (MSM) master’s program welcomes students interested in working in art museums, historical or anthropological institutions, cultural organizations, children’s museums, natural science and living museums, zoos, and aquaria. Students gain experience in objects and collections research, exhibition, publication, and programming, while developing valuable skills in administration, fundraising, fiscal management, collections care, research, and education. Students can choose a track within the MSM program that best suits their career goals and meet with museum professionals and faculty advisors to help them chart their paths.

Professional Opportunities

  • Students gain practical experience and develop expertise in their chosen areas through internships in local, regional, and national museums and cultural institutions. Some internships have funding available.
  • Thanks to faculty collaborations with Gilcrease Museum and Helmerich Center for American Research, students enjoy in-depth opportunities to specialize in the curation, care, and exhibition of American art, archaeology, ethnology, and archives.
  • Graduates are well prepared for a range of opportunities within museums, in areas such as registration, exhibition planning, education and public programming, digitization, development, and administration.
  • Job opportunities are available in roles including museum administration, fiscal management, collections care and research, museum education, and arts advocacy.

Funding Opportunities

  • Graduate assistantships covering tuition and a monthly stipend are available on a limited basis for highly qualified, full-time students.
  • The Ben Graf Henneke Graduate Research Fellowship (full tuition coverage, monthly stipend, and funded study abroad opportunities for M.A. students), and the Foster Brooks Parriott Fellowship (up to 24 hours of tuition coverage) are also available.

Admission Information
