About

The Schweitzer Fellowship is a year-long interdisciplinary leadership program for graduate and professional degree students who are passionate about addressing health disparities and want to sharpen their skills for a lifetime of impactful leadership. The Fellowship defines health broadly and is rooted in the understanding that health is determined by social, environmental and political factors. Tulsa is one of 13 Schweitzer Fellowship sites across the US.

Each Fellow designs and implements a 200-hour project with a local agency and participates in monthly leadership workshops and two retreats. The Fellowship runs April-April. Each Fellow receives a $3,000 stipend.

Past projects have included a diabetes education program at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, Tulsa’s first parenting class for veterans at the Coffee Bunker, STEM education workshops for students at TPS’s Sequoyah Elementary School, health advocacy classes for clients at UMA Tulsa.

Application information

Each fellow receives a $3,000 stipend to design and implement a unique, year-long 200-hour service project that addresses an unmet health need in the Tulsa area with a measurable impact. Past projects have included a diabetes education program at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, Tulsa’s first parenting class for veterans at the Coffee Bunker, and nutrition and obesity prevention workshops for fifth-graders in four Tulsa Public Schools locations.

Deadline: Completed applications are due in February of each year. See application link below for more details.
Program length: The program runs from April to May for the period of 13 months.
Eligibility: Enrolled graduate and professional degree students from any Tulsa-area university

Meet the Director

Emma Morris is the director of the Tulsa Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. Emma has a background in health policy, leadership development, and community engagement. She earned her MPA from OU-Tulsa and holds undergraduate degrees in nonprofit administration and women’s studies. Emma is an alumna of Oklahoma Policy Institute’s Summer Policy Institute, Families USA’s Health Equity Fellowship, and OU’s The Mine, a social entrepreneurship program.
