
On Thursday, March 6, The University of Tulsa hosted the Resilience & Belonging Awards Dinner to recognize and celebrate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and organizations who have demonstrated a continued commitment to cultivating a campus that values life experiences, ideas, and perspectives, and is dedicated to creating resilience and belonging among all. The featured keynote speaker was John Quiñones, an American journalist and ABC News correspondent for “20/20,” “Nightline,” and “Good Morning America,” as well as the host of the popular “What Would You Do?” television program.
Here is a list of the 2025 honorees:
Rising Advocate Award
Heavyn Harris, Collins College of Business Sophomore
This award honors an individual who is new to the university and has made a meaningful impact through advocacy and dedication.
Brave Supporter Award
Melissa Abdo, Director of Civic Engagement
This award is given to someone who stands in solidarity with underrepresented communities.
Safe Space Award
Joanne Davis, Professor of Clinical Psychology
This award recognizes an individual who builds an oasis where individuals feel safe, supported, and heard.

Cultural Ambassador Award
South Asian Student Association
This award recognizes a student organization that builds bridges and fosters a spirit of unity.
Art of Service Award
Tafadzwa Mlambo, Cyber Studies Doctoral Student
This award honors an individual who embodies the spirit of service, contributing to events and volunteering “above and beyond.”
Speak Out Award
Debbie Chalmers, Associate Dean of Students
This award goes to someone who amplifies unheard voices, using their position, influence, or access to share their platforms.
Mosaic Maker Award
Taylor Jennings, Coordinator of International Student Experience
This award celebrates someone who creates spaces where different perspectives and backgrounds can be appreciated.
Inclusive Innovator Award
Lisa Cromer, Professor of Psychology
This award recognizes an individual who pioneers new ideas, projects, or initiatives that uplift marginalized voices.

Resilience & Belonging Champion
Sarah Wayd, Computer Information Systems and Cyber Security Senior
