English professor welcomed to Royal Society of Canada

Denisoff

The Royal Society of Canada announced this week that Dennis Denisoff, The University of Tulsa’s Ida Barnard McFarlin Chair of English, has been elected to The Academy of Arts and Humanities.

Denisoff and 101 other new fellows were elected to the society by their peers for outstanding scholarly achievements. This recognition is the highest honor in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences.

The Royal Society of Canada is delighted to welcome into its ranks a talented group of inspiring researchers, artists and creators whose peers have recognized their exceptional contributions to the world of science and culture, as well as to the well-being of Canadians. Their research will continue to influence public policy for years to come, while improving the well-being of our society,” said Alain-G. Gagnon, president of the society.

A world-renowned scholar in environmental humanities, Denisoff’s research highlights the role of inter-species and queer relations in literary and historical narratives that gave rise to contemporary ecology and environmentalism. His research has brought awareness to the profound contributions of culturally erased and objectified individuals and communities to modern ecological thoughts and debates.

“It is particularly a pleasure to see this recognition given to the environmental humanities, queer studies and animal activism,” said Denisoff. “I could not have been able to conduct my research without UTulsa’s constant support of my work and engagement with the international scholarly community.”
