Dear friends of the Oxley College of Health & Natural Sciences,
The University of Tulsa began as the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls in 1882, becoming Henry Kendall College in 1894. Moving to Tulsa in 1907, the charter for the new University of Tulsa was signed in 1920.
Fast forward nearly 100 years, and the critical importance of health and science education drove the creation of the Mary K. and John T. Oxley College of Health Sciences as the home to our health programs. Our next evolution occurred in 2023 when we welcomed the natural sciences to Oxley. I’m honored to serve as the inaugural dean of OCHNS and lead with our extraordinary faculty and staff to serve our students, the country, and beyond.
While we have made an impact on the wellbeing of communities, we are poised to make even greater contributions at this point in time. Health care and scientific inquiry are critical to our world and yet face intense pressure from changes in society.
As we move forward, we will continue to support and invest in the exceptional talent of our faculty and students, encouraging them to take risks, pursue big ideas, and collaborate across fields. We are dedicated to preparing our graduates to be leaders and innovators in their respective fields. Importantly, we could not do this work without our strong partners in the community and our alumni supporters. Thanks to all of you.
I’m excited for the work ahead. The world needs us. Reign ’Cane!
Warmly,
Sue Pepin, M.D., MPH
Dean of the Oxley College of Health & Natural Sciences
