The University of Tulsa’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE) celebrated International Education Week in November by partnering with campus organizations and hosting events to highlight the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. International Education Week is a joint initiative between the U.S. Departments of Education and State.
More than 400 international students from 81 countries attend UTulsa, and almost 300 students from the university studied abroad in 2023-24.
An International Coffee Chat kicked off the week at UTulsa by hosting more than 60 students, faculty, and staff to learn about Vietnam and to try some traditional foods and beverages. Other presentations included the International Student Panel and the Global Leadership Program. The panel featured four international students who shared their journey and experiences while studying at The University of Tulsa. The Global Leadership Program held their final meeting and students presented what they had learned about leadership throughout the semester. On Nov. 23, the Global Leadership Program volunteered at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The Association of International Students, Student Activities Board, and CGE sponsored the annual International Bazaar on Nov. 15. This year’s theme was Dance Around the World. More than 300 students visited country booths, tried new foods, watched performances, and celebrated various countries.
Study Abroad hosted an information session for faculty interested in proposing travel courses and a pop-up table in the Student Union to inform domestic students about short- or long-term opportunities to study outside of the United States.
This month’s Spill the Tea with CGE invited students and employees to meet delegates and
exchange students from longtime partner University of Siegen and sample treats and coffee from Germany.
To end the week, there was a Pin the Flag event for all the university to participate by marking where they are from, where they had studied abroad, and where they hope to travel.
In addition to these events, CGE hosted various campus visitors and delegates during the week. More than 20 Chinese visitors attended an International Symposium for Student Affairs, which was presented with Student Life. CGE also welcomed guests from the French Consulate and a group of young entrepreneurs from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
