Students honored, scholarships awarded at Energy Law Journal banquet 

The University of Tulsa’s College of Law recognized student achievement, leadership and scholarship during the Energy Law Journal Awards Banquet on April 17, celebrating the work of editors, candidates, faculty mentors and industry partners.

Students, faculty and alumni gathered to celebrate scholarship, leadership and achievement at the annual ELJ Banquet Awards Ceremony.

The annual event highlighted the accomplishments of students involved with the Energy Law Journal and the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Year in Review, two longstanding programs that connect UTulsa Law students with nationally recognized legal publications.

Scholarships

The Oklahoma Bar Association Energy and Natural Resource Section and the Tulsa County Bar Association Energy and Mineral Law Section awarded scholarships to three students for the 2026-27 academic year: Alexa Miranda received the Tulsa County Bar Association scholarship. Alex Wilkinson and Mikayla Stacy each received scholarships from the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Student Awards

Several students were honored for outstanding contributions to the journal and Year in Review.

Hannah Walblay received the school’s Editor-in-Chief Award and an additional cash award recognizing her service as student editor-in-chief of the Energy Law Journal.

Maddy Vann received the Foundation of the Energy Law Journal Award for Editorial Excellence.

Abbie Marsh received the Outstanding 3L Award.

Bryler Nichols received the Outstanding 2L Award.

Nate Edwards received the Robert A. Butkin Outstanding Student Note Award.

Travis Brizendine received the Marla Mansfield Award, a peer-selected honor recognizing service, mentorship and support for incoming candidates.

For the Year in Review publication, Dana Gillentine received the Year-in-Review Editor-in-Chief Award. Madeleine Stout received the Outstanding ABA Year-in-Review Member Award.

The banquet also introduced the 2026-27 executive board. Laurel Cox was named incoming editor in chief. Riley Atkinson will serve as executive articles editor, Abby Daniels as executive notes editor and Mikayla Stacy as Year-in-Review editor in chief.
