The TU Community

One of the major perks of attending TU is the smaller student population which allows for a better learning and social environment. Depending on which college you attend, at TU you may find yourself in a class with 20 students instead of a larger lecture hall with a 100. Smaller classes allow students to have bigger discussions as a class and even smaller group activities. This of course keeps you engaged in class, but it also lets you get your ideas out and helps to solidify the subject you’re learning. It is known that asking questions is the best way to learn, but sometimes that can be intimidating. That’s the reason for that pause at the end of the lecture after your professor asks for questions. You may just not care or you’re scared of asking a “dumb” question. Either way, this fear only gets worse when there are another 100 students at a lecture where questions or discussions are rarely had. This may not be true for everyone, but I personally am less likely to ask questions in a larger class. A smaller student population also makes it easier to build relationships with other students. It’s simple, fewer people mean you’re more likely to see the same people. Whether it be at an event, at the student union, or in class you can always count on seeing familiar faces. Being able to see the same faces from day to day, semester to semester, and building strong connections is what makes TU a community and not just a university.
