Tulsa Law Review celebrates student excellence, leadership 

The University of Tulsa’s College of Law celebrated student achievement, leadership and scholarship during the Tulsa Law Review Student Awards Banquet on April 14 at 101 Archer.

The annual event recognized the work of journal members, honored graduating student leaders and marked the transition from the outgoing editorial board to the incoming leadership team.

The evening also featured keynote remarks from Jason A. Robertson, a U.S. magistrate judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma and adjunct professor at UTulsa Law. Robertson, who was appointed to the federal bench in 2022, has more than 25 years of legal experience in criminal defense, civil litigation and mediation. He spoke about the calling of the legal profession and the responsibilities that come with a career in law.

Top Honors

Zak Rahal received the Outstanding 2L Award, recognizing exceptional performance and contributions during his year as an associate editor.

Dalton Long received the Outstanding 3L Award, presented to the graduating editor who best embodied the spirit of Tulsa Law Review through dedication and service.

The Excellence in Editorial Board Leadership Award, was introduced this year and presented to Morgan Williams. Williams, the journal’s executive editor, was recognized for mentoring associate editors and supporting the editorial board throughout the academic year.

Associate Editor Awards

Brianna Quinata received the Most Original Argument Award.

Jonathan Eagle received the award for paper Most Likely to Get Cited in a Court Opinion.

Peter Buscemi earned the Best Overall Paper Award.

Elyse Oldroyd received the Best Below the Line Edits Award.

Melody Reed received the Best Above the Line Edits Award.

Michael Roark received the Get a Life Award, recognizing exceptional time and dedication to journal work.

Editorial Board Awards

Morgan Williams received the award selected by associate editors for best supporting and guiding the 2L class.

Forrest Kinney received the Outstanding Team Leader Award.

Sarah Brubaker received the Outstanding Article Selection Editor Award.

Tate Farley received the Outstanding Articles Editor Award.

Jake Landry received the Outstanding Notes & Comments Editor Award.

Emily Taylor received the Exceptional Contribution Award.

This year, Tulsa Law Review also published three separate issues – the symposium, winter and spring editions – a milestone not achieved in many years. The publication schedule reflected the work of student editors who managed scholarship, editing and production throughout the academic year.
