Yi Qian, Tandy Chair of Computer Science

Dear colleagues and students,

My name is Yi Qian. I am honored to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Tandy School of Computer Science in the College of Engineering & Computer Science at The University of Tulsa.

It is a privilege to join such a vibrant and accomplished community within the College of Engineering & Computer Science at the university. I came to The University of Tulsa with a deep appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration, a commitment to academic excellence and a strong belief in the transformative power of computing across all areas of engineering and beyond. I am now eager to share my vision for leading the Tandy School of Computer Science.

As chair, I will foster a collegial environment that supports and elevates world-class scholarship and research. The Tandy School of Computer Science’s strengths in key research areas, such as artificial intelligence, trustworthy autonomy, bioinformatics, cyber-physical systems and networking will continue to flourish. With the state-of-the-art computer science research laboratories to nationally renowned cyber security program, the school is well positioned to pursue major research initiatives. I will lead efforts to create strategies that enhance collaboration among these labs and research areas within the school while also establishing coordination mechanisms across departments in the college.

The emphasis of the school chair’s role on industry outreach, technology transfer, innovation and collaboration with industrial partners strongly resonates with me. My commitment to these areas is demonstrated by over nine years of extensive industrial and government research experiences with esteemed organizations. I have held various research and technology leadership positions within the telecommunications industry and government research agencies.

As we look ahead, I am excited to work closely with each of you to strengthen our shared mission, advancing research, fostering innovation and providing our students with outstanding educational experience. I am particularly eager to explore new opportunities for collaboration between our departments, whether through joint research initiatives, cross-listed courses and degrees or student engagement programs.

Please feel free to reach out if you would like to connect, share ideas or simply say hello. I look forward to learning from you and working together to support the continued success of the College of Engineering & Computer Science and The University of Tulsa.

Warm regards,

Yi Qian, Ph.D.
