More than 1,000 students are celebrating degree completion at The University of Tulsa. Graduation ceremonies were held Friday evening and Saturday morning for Kendall College of Arts & Sciences, Oxley College of Health & Natural Sciences, Collins College of Business, College of Engineering & Computer Science, College of Law, and Graduate School.
The UTulsa class of 2023-24 includes 539 bachelor’s degrees, 274 master’s degrees, 72 doctoral degrees, 92 law degrees, and 42 doctor of nurse practitioner degrees. The majority of the students have already accepted excellent job offers at Fortune 100 companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Walmart, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Walgreens, and ConocoPhillips.
More graduates also have been accepted into prestigious graduate programs and medical schools at Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, and Washington University in St. Louis.
Honors were announced for:
- the 2024 Marcy Lawless Service Award recipient Brittany Banh of Bartlesville, who on Saturday received a bachelor’s degree with majors in psychology and women’s and gender studies and a minor in early childhood intervention;
- the 2024 Outstanding Teachers, Jeffrey Alderman, Emily Contois, and Dustin Donnell;
- and the 2024 Outstanding Researchers, Michelle Martin, Elana Newman, and Holden Zhang.
In his address to graduates, UTulsa President Brad R. Carson acknowledged the university’s 130-year history and reiterated the line from the alma mater, “Loyal, Always True.” He encouraged them to be true to their purpose and values, loyal to continued learning, true to others through citizenship and service, and loyal to those following in their footsteps.
“The University of Tulsa has a long history of producing leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Today, you join their ranks,” said Alumni Association President Thomas Porter (BSBA ’14). “Stay engaged and connected. You carry the hopes and dreams of all those who came before you.”
Student Government Association President Jennifer Fierro delivered parts of her commencement address in both English and Spanish and “As we embark on the next chapter, let’s enjoy the highs, the lows, and everything in between. … Dream big because our potential knows no bounds.”
