About
Andrew Wood was born in Montreal, Canada. His research focuses on the history of Mexico. He has published several prize-winning books and articles on a variety of interrelated topics: urbanization, immigration, social movements, popular housing, regional politics, civic ritual and celebration, tourism history, sound, and music. Wood is currently writing a colonial and 19th-century history of the port of Veracruz, Mexico. An avid international traveler and musician, he was recently awarded both The University of Tulsa Faculty Research and Teaching Awards.
Awards and Honors
2021 – University of Tulsa Outstanding Researcher Award.
2020 – University of Tulsa Outstanding Teacher Award.
2012 – Gustave Reese Endowment Award, American Musicological Society (Agustín Lara: A Cultural Biography).
2008 – Harold Eugene Davis Award for Best Article Published by a MACLAS member 2006-07 (w/James Baer).
2004 – University of Tulsa Thomas F. Buckley Award for Teaching Excellence.
2002 – Thomas McGann Memorial Book Prize-RMCLAS, (Revolution in the Street).
