The University of Tulsa welcomed alumnus Christopher Shrock (B.S. ’04, J.D. ’22) as part of its Cyber Fellows Speaker Series. Shrock is an attorney at Tulsa-based GableGotwals, an associate of the law firm’s intellectual property group. His lecture touched on Schrock’s philosophy, experiences and advice navigating the complexities of intellectual property law.
Shrock advised students to approach all issues with a “litigator mindset,” examining every fact fairly but with scrutiny on every detail. He said this not only protects your professional work but also prevents issues that arise personally. On navigating intellectual property, Shrock discussed the process of legally claiming a product, claiming copyright in contracts and commercializing a product. He discussed real-world disputes he’s litigated and cases he studied while attending UTulsa Law.
Shrock mentioned his foundation with UTulsa has inspired him throughout his academic and professional journey. He said he remembers classes he took with Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Peter LoPresti, Ph.D., stating LoPresti’s teaching are still relevant now in his legal practice. On advice to students, he emphasized that all careers, like his, can separate or merge into a unique path.
